Weekend 2 of Building a Garden

This week I have pictures! I was so exhausted last week I did not get a chance. This week I made sure I had time for pictures of our progress. We finished the large 20×10 raised bed, lined it with weed guard and filled it with top soil.

All the kids were so helpful with this, especially Jimi. He definitely put in some hard work, while some of the kids idea of help was just supervising Daddy and Jimi.

After hours of work, it was finished. And it looks great. We will be adding fencing and a gate too, but that will be after planting.

After completing that, I came to plant but after realizing the chilly weather over the next few days I decided to only plant potatoes.

In addition to the garden we built, there was a sandbox we decided to use as a raised bed as well. So We filled it in and I used wire fencing to create barrel shaped cages to file with dirt for potatoes. After making them I filled them with dirt and planted the potatoes.

Next year I think I will use a wire fence that has a smaller grid pattern, although it worked, it was difficult to fill. We made a discovery while planting our garden, make sure to read the next post to hear about what we found.
