Today we started off at the Ankeny Farmers’ Market. It was a cold wet morning and we were definitely not dressed for the weather. Being mid-June, I didn’t think to pack the kids any warm clothes.
When we first got there it looked like they were cleaning up from some sort of walk/run they had before we arrived and the clouds looked like they would open up at any moment, which they did pretty soon after we got there. I think due to these two factors there were not many people or vendors.
This allowed us to get some time to talk to some of the vendors a little more and get some good information. We also purchased everything we needed to make a fresh salad for dinner, and breakfast for tomorrow morning.
If only we thought about how we would cook these before we bought it all. So tonight, we were able to make the salad, although I did have to buy baking sheets to cook the chicken on and seasoning. We were able to make it work. We even had a bowl for the salad, we used the inside part of the Instapot.
Tomorrow, for breakfast, I will saute the onion and peppers in the Instapot and then scramble eggs on it too. I will use the new baking sheets to cook the bacon. Not quite the omelets I was hoping to make but it will work.
I was given a lot of advice about the growing season in IA and how it hasn’t been as good due to the flooding. The same lady also talked to me about how to best create a garden using pots and where the best placement is for them. She was so helpful.
Megan is firming up her decisions on what to plant so we can go tomorrow to pick them out. We were very blessed to have the renters before us leave behind 5 very nice pots that we can use.
After the Farmers’ Market we went to a small book store. All 6 of us picked out a book to read today. The kids love books, and this is a great alternative to their tablets.
After a couple hours of reading the rain dried up and we got to go out for a walk in the neighborhood, and then just run around outside.
Our rental house does not have a fence so we put a line on one of the footers on the deck and let Hunter run around too. He loved it, although he didn’t quite know how much room he had on it, so there were a couple of times where he felt a jerk on the collar because he ran out of line.
But tonight was my favorite part of the day, where we sat out by the fire pit and roasted marshmallow until right before the next thunderstorm came rolling in.
We have so many memories of S’mores, I remember when the two oldest were younger and they kept saying mudder fudders, we thought they were cursing and couldn’t figure out where they got it from. One day we were making S’mores in the microwave and they got so excited and started screaming mudder fudders.
I am so excited to have had the opportunity to create so many more memories during the last few weeks.
