What a day! The views along the way were absolutely breathtaking! You can see for miles out here, especially when the skies are so clear and blue.
It’s so flat in places that you can see the ran starting from miles away. It slowly swept across the sky like in this picture. It looked as though God himself was painting the rain onto the canvas in front of us.
Soon the beautiful rain we saw from a distance turned into a nerve racking 30 minutes of driving with little to no visibility at times.
After about 8 hours of driving we decide to stop at a famous place called Wall Drug. If you’ve driven on 90 West toward the Black Hills, then you’ve seen the hundreds of signs announcing this historic stop. We read that it was known in the 1930’s for offering free ice cold water to weary travelers. So we had to stop for our water, which they still offer for free today. It is now a very touristy place to stop… maybe too touristy.
We had fun just looking around and we even enjoyed some ice cream while we were there. So far we have had a good time but I do wish it was a little less of a tourist stop and a little more authentic to the 1930s. I cannot wait to see what the kids have planned tomorrow. From what I hear it is something we have to get up early for, so it is an early bedtime for us tonight!
